4 things I do to lighten up my days
This post was brought to you by Hunkemöller.
For us girls it is vital to feel beautiful. Yes, you’ve read it right: not be, feel. While physical beauty comes in all shapes and sizes (so cliché but so true), this thing called “inner” beauty is something we all strive to pursue.
That glow from inside out.
Those radiating confidence and happiness…
You guys know that after moving to Belgium, I haven’ been feeling my best both mentally and physically. I think I have achieved a new level in the life of an immigrant which is frustration. Thankfully, I do understand that it is a natural reaction, it is temporary and will eventually come to an end. These days are somewhere in the future and we have yet to get there, but life is happening today and now, and I definitely need to do something ASAP because… I’ve been catching myself on the thoughts of not feeling beautiful anymore. I’ve lost the contact with my body, my personal needs and desires. It’s just not me. Getting back to my rather happy and confident self is essential to my wellbeing, so…
Here are the four things that help me to brighten up:
1. Focusing on activities that make my heart sing
Not surprisingly, it’s when I’m doing things that I’m most passionate about, but for which I barely have time in my chaotic schedule. Blasting my favourite music, cuddling with my husband while watching something, losing myself in book after book, exploring new places… These things are so basic and simple but when they’re out of my life for some reason, my world dulls. In order to feel better, I try to incorporate at least one of them (ah, if only I had a bathtub in the apartment!...) into my days. Works like magic.
2. Wearing the right clothes
They say dress to impress, I say dress to feel good regardless they see it or not. There is something very special about hiding a sexy number under your usual jeans and tee. Having worked in fashion industry, I view lingerie as a symbol of women empowerment. It screams femininity, sexiness, and is a great source of inspiration to all women around the world.
What’s so good about it is that you can express your nature or emotions even if you don’t want to project them to the outside world. Feeling romantic? Wear a lacy push-up. Wanna be lazy all day? Grab a lounge bra and cotton briefs then.
Can you guess how I feel only by looking at what I’m wearing?
3. Looking inside
You know I love journaling. It is my meditation, my way to connect with my inner self. I feel the most beautiful and confident when I’m at peace with myself and the world around me and having some pen+paper time helps a ton. Here’s a fun little exercise one wise (and very beautiful!) woman has taught me: get yourself the prettiest, the softest notebook and create a ‘Success Diary/Log’ there. Look as much back in time as possible, write down and celebrate all your successes, big or small. They might be as “insignificant” as finishing your paper, or as ‘“substantial” as coming first at a race. Everything matters. I reread my ‘Success Diary’ whenever I feel down. It helps me to see how much I have achieved and lifts me up, word after word.
4. Practicing good posture
We feel how we look, and we look how we act. Our emotions reside in our bodies: standing upright or sitting with a straight back and your head up, having good (=open) body language also boosts confidence and positive thoughts.
Besides, by watching my posture I also make sure my face won’t ‘slide’ down over the years. Girl, it’s not gravity that makes your cheeks and chin rest on your shoulders overtime, it’s bad bodily habits and muscular hypertonia. Google ‘Revitonica’ — you’d be amazed with what it can do.
This what makes me beautiful!
